INVESTIGATING AUTISTIC PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES OF ABA

PARTICIPANTS NEEDED WHO:

  • Identify as autistic

  • Are aged 18 or over

  • Have previously received some form of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

WHAT IS THE RESEARCH ABOUT?

My name is Holly. I am an MSc (Pre-Qualifying) Speech and Language Therapy student, conducting research which aims to explore how autistic people feel about ABA interventions they have experienced, how they describe their experiences, and what factors influence how they feel.

The research will also look at autistic people's opinions about how autism interventions/therapies should be conducted - or if they should they exist at all.

Specific Research Questions are:

  • How do autistic people feel about ABA interventions they have experienced? How do they describe their experiences?

  • What factors influenced how they feel? – What specifically was it that made it a positive/negative experience.

  • How do they feel autism interventions/therapies should be conducted? Or should they exist at all?

The study has ethical approval from Manchester Metropolitan University (ETHOS number 26575)

WHAT WILL PARTICIPATING INVOLVE?

You will take part in an online interview (verbal or written/typed). There are multiple options for how you can participate in the interview (e.g. Skype chat or video call, Twitter message exchange via direct messages) – whatever you feel comfortable with!
